Jumping Skates

03 May

Two scant metal blades

glide across the rink.

A single blade briefly thrusts into

the chilled firmness, ice feathers

shooting up and trickling down.

The blades soar above

in three and a half rotations

and one lands in reverse motion.

The blade in the air descends

and breaks the ice behind the other blade

throwing up more ice feathers.

They spin in the air one last time

then skid across the ice to a halt.
