My amazing friend, Kennedy Ryan, introduced me to Krista and Becca’s Addicted series through an enthusiastic tweet to followers about the series. A click, a little synopsis reading, and a few more clicks later they had a new fan and didn’t know it. Until I tweeted them after I read Kiss The Sky. I fell in love with Lily, Rose, Daisy, Lo, Connor, and Ryke and the banter between the six of them. Each character is well-developed and you find yourself in the story rather than reading the story, pulling for each of them when they are at their lowest and cheering them on in their successes.

If you haven’t heard of the Addicted series or read it yet, finish reading then go get Addicted To You. I’m certain you’ll find yourself binge reading Ricochet, Addicted For Now, Kiss The Sky, and Hothouse Flower.

Krista and Becca, thank you for including me in this tour and taking the time to answer my questions!

Thrive Official CoverSUMMARY

Two years will change them forever.

When rumors spread like wildfire—like having three-ways with her boyfriend’s rock climbing brother—Lily Calloway spirals into a dark place. Her bedroom. Loren Hale is more confident and determined to keep their sex life private, even from their friends, and he helps Lily in the only way he knows how. But how much love is too much?

Their lives are filmed, watched, and criticized. And through it all, Lily and Loren have to face enemies they never thought they’d see, demons they don’t know if they should bury, and setbacks they didn’t think they’d meet. Not this soon.

And one rumor could be too much for them to handle. It will test their greatest limitations, and if they don’t hold onto each other, someone is going to drown.

A full-length New Adult Romance that bridges the gap between the second and third books. Thrive must be read before Addicted After All if you have not read the Calloway Sisters spin-off

And now, on to the interview…

I was drawn to the Addicted series after seeing Kennedy Ryan tweet raving comments about it to her followers in general. After reading the description for Addicted To You, I was intrigued as a former professional in the mental health field. What was your motivation and/or inspiration for introducing Lily and Lo while they are stuck running in circles at rock bottom?

Krista: Kennedy Ryan has been so sweet and supportive, and we owe her giant twin hugs J When we were brainstorming Addicted to You, we knew that we wanted to show Lily and Lo during all the messy parts of their addictions. The constant revolving cycles. The lows. The highs. And all the in-betweens. So we had to start the series before they hit their rock bottoms, when they’re in denial about hurting anyone other than themselves. We knew it would be difficult to make them sympathetic and likable, but that was one of the main reasons we wanted to try. We liked the challenge.

Becca: What Krista said! We liked being able to show the messy parts of addiction, not sugarcoating anything, before they started recovery. The best part is that readers have seen Lily and Lo at their worst. And they’ve seen them come to the painful conclusion that they need to get healthier. If we started the series with them in rehab or already recovering, readers would’ve missed that acceptance, which is a pinnacle point of their lives.

We’ve seen friends and family step in to intervene with both Lily and Lo throughout the series and some growth through the lessons they learn with each intervention. Will we see a time before the end of the series when Lily and Lo can function without the interventions?

Krista: Yes. Definitely. There will come a point when both of them have to step up and be able to solve problems and function without the help of other people. The journey there is just the hard part.

Becca: In Thrive, Lily and Lo begin at a better place (the book starts where Addicted for Now left off) and their friends’ constant interference and worry, even when Lily & Lo are doing great, creates a bit of frustration for Lily and Lo, and some comedic moments.

Every Addicted fan has a favorite Lily and Lo moment. Mine is when Lo finally confesses to Lily that he wants a real relationship on the yacht. What is your favorite moment or is it in Thrive and too “spoilery”?

Krista: Oh gosh! There are so many favorite moments for me. Since Thrive spans the same events as Kiss the Sky and Hothouse Flower, I don’t think it will be too spoilery. But if you haven’t read the Calloway Sisters series yet, then I wouldn’t read any further. *spoilers ahead* I’m going to say my favorite moment in Thrive is definitely when Lo finds out Lily’s big secret (it happens at the end of Hothouse Flower).

Becca: Hmmmm. My favorite Lily & Lo moment… would probably occur in Thrive too since it’s my favorite Lily & Lo book we’ve written so far. The whole gang goes to Comic-Con, and something that happens ties into a moment from Addicted to You. That’s all I can really say without being too spoilery!

Thrive spans two years and gives us Lily and Lo’s POV during Kiss The Sky and Hothouse Flower time periods. What else can we expect that isn’t too “spoilery”.

Krista: You can expect lots of scenes that weren’t shown in those books. I would say that Thrive is 80% new material. We didn’t just take those books and adapt them in Lily and Lo’s POVs. It should feel fresh and new, even if some of the major events are the same.

Becca: Thrive fleshes out a story you think you know from Kiss the Sky and Hothouse Flower. It really shows you most of the off-screen things that we’re happening during the same time. Like Krista said, 80% new material. And the epilogue will reveal the conflict in Addicted After All, the final book in Lily & Lo’s POVs.

You two interact graciously with your fans through various forms of social media. How do you balance your time on social media with writing?

Krista: It definitely helps that there are two of us! I honestly think we both like interacting with readers just as much as writing. It fuels us to keep creating stories.

Becca: What Krista just said! We love interacting on social media, and just so I don’t get sucked into Twitter (which is so easy for me), I usually set hours for myself and then switch to writing.

I know you both listen to music while writing. What are some of the songs that provided inspiration for you two while writing Thrive?

Krista: There are so many! My top 2 would be “Set Me Free (Feel My Pain)” by Charli XCX and “The Cold” by Exitmusic

Becca: “Set Me Free (Feel My Pain)” is a huge one! And during the Kiss the Sky timeline parts with Rose and Connor, I often listened to “Diamonds” by Johnnyswim. It’s more upbeat which suits the couple.

Thank you again, Krista and Becca! Can’t wait for Friday!
